Osasuna have confirmed winger Alex Berenguer will join Torino in a deal worth up to €6.5m with a clause inserted to ward off a future Athletic Bilbao deal.
The 22-year-old has been a long-term target for Napoli but a move has fallen through, reportedly due to the Partenopei’s inability to move on Emanuele Giaccherini.
Torino will pay €5.5m up front for the winger with an extra €1m based on performances, while the player has waived his right to 15% of any deal.
Pamplona-based Osasuna have had a breakdown in a relationship with Athletic Bilbao and an unusual clause has been inserted in the deal with the Turin-club; Osasuna will be paid an extra €1.5m by Torino should he later be sold to Athletic, who had registered an interest this summer.
Berenguer is eligible to move to San Mames due to his Basque heritage at a future date, but will now be playing in Serie A next season.
