Jesus Garcia Pitarch has resigned from his post as sporting director of Valencia, just a week after Cesare Prandelli’s departure.
Prandellii claimed at his farewell Press conference that Suso had submitted his own intention to step down, only for President Peter Lim to reject the request.
Nonetheless, a statement on Valencia’s official website reads the following three points:
“1. Jesus Garcia Pitarch has irrevocably resigned as sporting director.
“2. The current academy director, Jose Ramon Alexanco, will assume [the role held by Suso] on an interim basis.
“3. His immediate tasks will be to continue with the work planned in the winter market and on everything related to the first team in accordance with Coach Voro Gonzalez.”
Suso returned to Mestalla for a second spell early last year, his first considerably more successful as he worked alongside Rafa Benitez, winning the 2003-04 La Liga.
His subsequent time at the club has been plagued by problems on and off the pitch, with no European qualification prompting Financial Fair Play issues and a multitude of Coaches coming and going.
