Atletico Madrid have enquired about the status of Chelsea striker Fernando Torres, reports in Spain claim.
Mundo Deportivo say Diego Simeone is behind the proposed move although a return for the former Atletico striker would be complicated by his hefty wage packet.
Atletico are already above what the LFP allow to be spent on wages and would have to sell before they could clinch a return for Torres.
Milan are leading the chase and are better equipped financially to meet the demands of signing Torres after selling Mario Balotelli to Liverpool.
MD add that Atletico are ‘cautious and not at all optimistic’ about the chances of pushing through the move.
It’s also not certain Chelsea will sell after Diego Costa suffered a hamstring injury in training. Torres’ future may depend on Costa’s fitness.
