Atletico Madrid defender Toby Alderweireld has admitted he is not fully happy with his situation at the club.
The Belgium international moved to Vicente Calderon in the summer but has struggled to dislodge Miranda and Diego Godin in the heart of Diego Simeone’s defence.
Alderweireld has made only 10 appearances out of a possible 30 this season and AS quotes the player as telling Dutch television that he misses his former club Ajax.
“I miss Ajax, the style of play, my former teammates,” Alderweireld said.
“I can’t be 100% happy at Atleti because I’m not playing.
“The team is going well and I’ll continue fighting for my place but I don’t think I’m at fault.”
Alderweireld’s options are limited should he seek to leave Atleti this month as he played a handful of times for Ajax before moving to Spain.
FIFA regulations prevent a player from appearing for three clubs in a single season so Alderweireld could only return to Ajax.
Atletico are not totally opposed to letting the 24-year-old return to Amsterdam but only if they can sign a replacement.
