LFP and AFE: no relegation censure

The Spanish League (LFP) and Spanish Football Association (AFE) say clubs that owe players money will not be relegated as a result.

LFP President Jose Luis Astiazaran and his AFE counterpart Luis Rubiales announced after a meeting on Tuesday that there will be no demotion by default as at the moment there are no outstanding claims relating to wages due to players.

“As at the end of this meeting we wish to say that there are no outstanding claims against any clubs that participated in La Primera or La Segunda during the 2011-12 season,” read a joint statement.

However, the AFE acknowledged it was aware there were some ´very difficult` situations in Spanish football right now that ´must be resolved with the collaboration of all parties`.

“We hope that this collaboration will continue in the future and we can resolve these issues through dialogue, work and effort,” it concluded.
