Gavi overcome major hurdle as Barcelona return edges ever closer

It has been almost 11 months since Gavi ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament whilst playing for Spain. Since then, he has been on the road to recovery, but soon, that will be coming to an end.

Barcelona have desperately missed Gavi’s presence in midfield, although they will have him back in the very near future. The current plan is for him to be included in the matchday squad to face Sevilla, which is the first match after the international break.

According to MD, Gavi is on track to do that. He competed in a high intensity training match during Wednesday’s session, and no ill-effects were suffered – this is seen as a major hurdle that he has overcome, and it means that a return to action is ever closer.

Barcelona are starting to recover more of their first team squad. Frenkie de Jong has returned in recent weeks, and Gavi’s impending comeback means that Hansi Flick will now have plentiful options in defensive midfield.
