Real Madrid’s victory over Villarreal on Saturday ended in a very sour manner. Dani Carvajal had to be stretchered off after a collision with Yeremy Pino, with the veteran defender’s cries of pain being easily heard inside the Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid were fearing the worst with Carvajal, and the player himself has taken to Instagram to confirm that he has suffered an ACL injury. As per Diario AS, he also noted that surgery will take place soon.
“A serious cruciate ligament injury is confirmed, I am going to have to go under the knife and be out of the field for a few months. I’m already looking forward to starting the recovery and coming back like a beast. Thank you all very much for your messages, I feel very loved.”
Carvajal’s injury is a monumental blow for Real Madrid, and it could also mean that they look to sign a new right-back to compete with Lucas Vazquez. Like Barcelona did after Marc-Andre Ter Stegen’s season-ending blow, they may try for an immediate free agent signing, or wait until the winter transfer window opens.
