“It’d be disrespectful if I didn’t consider this” – Veteran goalkeeper opens up on Barcelona offer

Barcelona are expected to move for a new goalkeeper imminently, with it being confirmed that Marc-Andre Ter Stegen will be out for the remainder of the season because of the serious knee injury he sustained during the victory over Villarreal on Sunday. Right now, the player in pole position to join is former Arsenal and Juventus stopper Wojciech Szczesny.

According to reports, Szczesny has already agreed to come out of retirement to sign for Barcelona, where he would compete with Inaki Pena and Aster Astralaga for the starting spot. On Wednesday, he spoke to Sport about the situation.

“I respect Barcelona’s history a lot; it is one of the best clubs in the world. I understand the difficult situation that has been generated for them after the injury of Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and I think it’d be disrespectful if I didn’t consider this option.”

The expectation is that Barcelona will confirm Szczesny’s arrival by the end of the week, and he could even be involved for the trip to Osasuna on Saturday.
