It has been almost four months since Xavi Hernandez was sacked by Barcelona, making way for the appointment of Hansi Flick as the club’s new head coach. Since then, he has been enjoying some time away from football, and as it turns out, he has had opportunities to make his return sooner than expected.
It’s likely that Xavi will take a sabbatical, thus not returning until the start of next season. He could have been back now, as it’s been reported by Corriere dello Sport (via MD) that he recently knocked back an approach from AS Roma.
Earlier this month, Roma parted ways with head coach Daniele De Rossi, and they had Xavi in mind as his replacement. However, they have since gone for Ivan Juric after being rejected by the Barcelona legend.
It will be interesting to see where Xavi does end up on his return to football management. Judging by the last few months, he won’t be short of offers once he does make the decision to come back.
