Girona manager Michel Sanchez appears to be having a midfield headache for this weekend’s Catalan derby against Barcelona. Oriol Romeu is unavailable to face his parent club, and with Yangel Herrera having been expected to miss the match due to injury, squad players Jhon Solis and Donny van de Beek may be forced to step up.
However, Herrera is attempting to make things easier for Michel. As per MD, the Venezuelan international has stepped up his recovery in recent days, as he attempts to rush back in time to face Barcelona at Montilivi.
Herrera suffered an adductor injury pre-international break, which meant that he could not join Venezuala’s squad for their 2026 World Cup qualifiers. It was expected that he would be out for a few weeks, but he could return ahead of schedule.
Girona will be desperate to have Herrera available to face Barcelona. A midfield of him, Ivan Martin and one more should be able to compete successfully, as was shown in the two meetings last season.
