Barcelona not interested in veteran midfield option represented by Jorge Mendes

Barcelona have not been making the moves they would have liked to in the final stages of the transfer market, with the most obvious weakness in their squad at defensive midfield after Marc Bernal’s injury. Barcelona manager Hansi Flick declared that they would be making do with Eric Garcia and Marc Casado there, but they did try for a replacement.

Knowing it was unlikely due to their finances, Matteo Moretto has revealed that Liverpool teenager Stefan Bajcetic was an option on the table for all of an hour, before a deal was discarded. He has since moved on loan to RB Salzburg for this season.

Another name linked to Barcelona was Paris Saint-Germain’s Danilo Pereira, who is not considered part of Luis Enrique’s plans. The 32-year-old also has the advantage of being represented by super-agent Jorge Mendes, who notoriously has a strong relationship with Barcelona President Joan Laporta.

However Moretto explained that as far as his information goes, he does not have any indication of interest from the Catalan giants. It looks as if they will have to forge ahead with just Garcia and Casado at least until January.
