Valencia are determined to sign a new central midfielder before the summer transfer window closes on Friday. They did have an agreement in place to sign Enzo Barranechea on a season-long loan, but Aston Villa pulled out at the 11th hour due to numerous injury concerns in Unai Emery’s squad.
However, less than 24 hours on and the deal has been revived. This has been confirmed by Matteo Moretto, who has confirmed that an agreement has been finalised between Valencia and Aston Villa. The 23-year-old is expected to travel to Spain in the coming hours.
The deal does not include an option to buy for Valencia, which makes sense considering that Barranechea only signed for Aston Villa earlier this summer from Juventus.
Barranechea will be a valuable addition to Ruben Baraja’s squad, which has been light on central midfielders. He will compete alongside Pepelu, Javi Guerra and Hugo Guillamon for a starting spot at Valencia.
