Champions League: Five-time winners Barcelona discover league phase opponents

The serious business now begins in the 2024-25 Champions League. On Thursday, UEFA held the draw for the league phase – introduced for the first time this season. Barcelona, who have won this competition on five occasions, were among the teams to learn their opposition for matches taking place between September and January.

Barcelona will be facing off against Bayern Munich (home) and Borussia Dortmund (away) from Pot 1; Atalanta (home) and Benfica (away) from Pot 2; Young Boys (home) and Crvena Zvedza (away) from Pot 3; Stade Brestois (home) and Monaco (away) from Pot 4.

The matches against German football’s big two are sure to be very mouth-watering for Barcelona, especially as the game against Bayern in Catalonia will be a reunion for Hansi Flick against the side he won the Champions League with in 2020.

The schedule for these matches is to be determined in the coming days. Barcelona should fancy their chances of qualifying into the last 16 automatically, although their recent European record suggests that it will not be easy.
