Barcelona fans were enamoured with their star signing Dani Olmo this summer after his debut, coming on at half-time with his side a goal down against Rayo Vallecano. He helped turn the game around, scoring the winner with a lovely curled effort.
After scoring there was a familiar sight of Olmo pointing to an imaginary watch. It’s a scene that was repeated on three occasions during Euro 2024, as Olmo took home the top scorer award.
Speaking to MD after the match, Olmo explained that it was in reference to basketball star Damian Lillard, and his ‘Dame Time’ celebration.
“There is a player that I really like in NBA basketball, Damian Lillard, and he does this celebration when he makes important baskets and I like it a lot and I have taken it for football.”
Olmo started off his Barcelona career in fine fettle, and more match-winning performances from him like his debut will make him a fan favourite quickly. The next question will be where he plays. Raphinha has impressed playing in behind Robert Lewandowski in the early going, although most see Ferran Torres dropping out of the side. The ex-RB Leipzig star has often played off the left, although it was Raphinha that went out to the left at Vallecas. h
