Contract clause boosts Atletico Madrid’s chances of signing midfield target

Atletico Madrid finalised the arrivals of Clement Lenglet and Juan Musso earlier this week, but with only a few days to go until the summer transfer window closes, their business is not yet complete. Specifically, a new central midfielder is wanted by Diego Simeone, as Arthur Vermeeren’s departure means that he has only four specialist options to choose from.

Gabri Veiga is one of the players on Atleti’s shortlist. The former Celta Vigo star is currently playing for Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia, but a return to Europe only 12 months after leaving Galicia could be on the cards.

According to Ruben Uria, Atleti’s chances of acquiring the services of Veiga have been boosted. It’s reported that the 22-year-old has a clause in his contract that allows him to join a Champions League club on loan.

Atletico Madrid fit the bill, although they would need to ensure that they have the necessary salary space to register Veiga with La Liga if an agreement is reached. That would depend on Thomas Lemar leaving, and at this stage, it seems very likely that he will go before Friday’s deadline.
