Barcelona bid €20m for Bundesliga star amid ongoing defensive crisis

Barcelona are facing an serious injury crisis, and it’s only three matches into the new season. Marc Bernal’s ACL rupture, which will rule him out for the remainder of the campaign, means that he joins Gavi, Frenkie de Jong, Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen and Eric Garcia in the medical room.

Eric’s foot injury, confirmed this week, means that Barcelona only have three senior central defenders: Pau Cubarsi, Inigo Martinez and Jules Kounde, who is likely to continue at right-back for the foreseeable future. Bearing this in mind, the club is trying to use the limited financial wiggle room that it has to make a new addition.

Jonathan Tah is a player that has been targeted, and according to MD, Barcelona have now submitted an opening offer of €20m to Bayer Leverkusen. Flick is a big fan of the 28-year-old, who would likely be a starter if he were to arrive.

Tah’s contract expires in 2025, so Leverkusen may be forced to cash in before Friday’s transfer deadline. Barcelona will hope so anyway, as it would increase their chance of the offer being accepted.
