23-year-old midfielder no longer joining Valencia after Aston Villa pull out of deal

Valencia have been in the market for a new central midfielder, as head coach Ruben Baraja only has three senior options at his disposal for this season: Pepelu, Javi Guerra and Hugo Guillamon. A low-cost signings is sought, although as it’s turned out, their attempt to secure an arrival have not been easy.

As per Relevo, Los Che had agreed a season-long loan with Aston Villa for Enzo Barrenechea – a 23-year-old pivot that joined the Premier League side earlier this summer from Juventus. However, the final sign-off had not been given, and now it never will (for this summer at least).

That’s because Aston Villa have decided not to loan out Barrenechea due to recent injuries sustained by multiple of their midfielders. It means that Valencia must now consider other options with only two days to go until the summer transfer window closes.

Some good news for Valencia is that they are about to close the signing of Maximiliano Caufriez, a defender that will arrive from Clermont Foot as the replacement for Real Valladolid-bound Cenk Ozcakar.
