Liverpool confirm €35m signing of La Liga superstar

This season will be Giorgi Mamardashvili’s last as a Valencia player. The 23-year-old is to depart the Mestalla at the end of the 2024-25 campaign for Liverpool, who have now wrapped up a deal with Los Che.

On Tuesday, Liverpool announced the signing of Mamardashvili, who will be immediately loaned back to Valencia for the remainder of this season. Recently, it had looked likely that the Georgian international would instead he loaned to another Premier League club, but his desire was to contribute one more season with Ruben Baraja’s side.

Mamardashvili has developed into one of the best goalkeepers in the world over the last 12 months. He was one of the standout ‘keepers in La Liga last season, and he carried that form in Euro 2024 – it was in Germany that his stock rose exponentially, and on the back of this, Liverpool have moved to tie him down as their Alisson Becker successor. There’s no doubt that his absence at Valencia will be felt from next season onwards.
