Athletic Club have not an easy start to the season. Aitor Paredes was injured during their opening day draw to Getafe, and for the moment, he remains unavailable for Ernesto Valverde, who only has two senior centre-backs options. Los Leones’ defensive woes have now worsened on the back of Saturday’s defeat to Barcelona.
Yuri Berchiche ended the match in Catalonia with a shoulder issue, and after consultation with Athletic’s medical department, it has been confirmed that he will miss Wednesday’s match against Valencia at San Mames.

Some good news for Athletic Club is that Nico Williams has been named by Valverde. He also ended the weekend in pain, but he has recovered to be included in the matchday squad, although he could be taken out of the starting line-up with an eye on this coming weekend’s showdown encounter against European rivals Atletico Madrid, which will also be played in Bilbao.
