Discarded Barcelona defender finds new club with three days to go in transfer window

Former Chelsea and Barcelona left-back Marcos Alonso looks to have finally found a new club with just three days to go in the transfer market. It looks as if he will be remaining in Spain.

While Alonso does not necessarily need to pen a deal with a club before the end of the window, as a free agent, no doubt the veteran defender was keen to find a new home as soon as possible. Manchester United and Atletico Madrid had been linked with a move for the 33-year-old, but there appeared to be little in those links.

Now according to Relevo, Celta Vigo have agreed to a two-year deal with Alonso, with a medical set for Tuesday. That might not be the formality that it once was, as he spent much of last season on the sidelines.

With only Mihailo Ristic for competition at left-back, Alonso will be hoping he can win a spot in the XI under Claudio Giraldez, and earn regular football in Galicia. During the course of his two seasons at Barcelona, Alonso won La Liga, making 45 appearances and scoring three for the Catalan side.
