Barcelona expect La Liga 1:1 return before Friday’s transfer window deadline

Barcelona came into the summer transfer window with huge expectations. The club’s idea was to return to La Liga’s 1:1 rule early on, sign big names such as Nico Williams and Dani Olmo, while also signing multiple sponsorship deals that would allow the financial situation to be significantly improved.

In the end, they achieved very little of these things. Olmo was signed, although he was the club’s second choice after Williams (who rejected the chance to join). They have yet to close their new contract with Nike, as this has had a knock-on effect as they have still cannot make their return to La Liga’s 1:1 rule.

For this last point, Barcelona say that they expect to return to the 1:1 before the transfer window closes on Friday, as per Diario AS. Club bosses will submit documents to La Liga detailing the “impending” agreement with Nike over a new deal, which would raise the funds required to receive the league’s approval. However, the announcement of the new agreement would not come this week.

It remains to be seen whether Barcelona can finally get La Liga to sign off on their return to the 1:1. It’s safe to say that it’s been another tumultuous summer in the club’s offices, but if they can achieve this goal, it will have been a little bit less of a disaster.
