Barcelona confident Federico Chiesa will choose them despite Liverpool interest

Juventus winger Federico Chiesa is set to leave Turin before the end of the summer transfer window, with his contract up next summer, and Thiago Motta not planning for his presence. His destination remains up in the air.

Barcelona have been heavily linked with Chiesa over the past week, but amid their salary limit struggles, have not made direct contact with Juventus. Available for around €15m, and with a salary of €4-5m, he has been touted as a low-cost option for Barcelona Sporting Director Deco. On Monday it emerged that Liverpool had enquired about him though, with the Italian winger giving the green light on a move.

However Sport report that Barcelona believe Chiesa will hold out for a move to Barcelona in spite of that interest. The Catalan daily believe that he has his mind set on Barcelona to relaunch his career, after two years without finding consistent form due to injury.

Prior reports have claimed that Chiesa will give Barcelona 24 hours to resolve their salary limit issues, with the transfer deadline on Friday. The Blaugrana are currently looking to tie up a fresh sponsorship deal with Nike, which they hope will see them back within La Liga’s spending limits.

  1. Let`s hope he moves, if he doesn`t he`s already agreed with intermilan and this is just smoke and mirrors. A curious player. And why it was leaked he was thinking about his `second choice` liverpool? Sure, it`s obvious you would choose Barcelona, but making it so obvious is very strange indeed. We`ll see if he just stays for the Juventus pay off. What a sad way to leave.
