Barcelona manager Hansi Flick against Eric Garcia exit amid Girona interest

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick addressed the media ahead of their clash with Rayo Vallecano on Tuesday night, with the majority of the questions centering around the club’s transfer activity. Clement Lenglet, Vitor Roque and Mikayil Faye have left the club, but Barcelona still do not have sufficient space to register star signing Dani Olmo.

Given that is the case, further exits have been suggested. A potential loan for Pablo Torre is unlikely to make much of a difference to their salary limit struggles, but a sale for Eric Garcia might help Olmo’s registration become a reality.

Girona remain interested in Garcia, who had him on loan last season from Barcelona, and there has been talk of a €15m move. The 23-year-old would have a key role for Girona, but would likely be used sparingly by Hansi Flick.

Asked about a potential exit though, Flick was keen not to lose any more players.

“I think some players s left in recent days. We also need some players to be able to play and be competitive with the other teams. For me now, for the team, I am OK. I am counting on Dani, something we can do is get him in the squad.”

The Blaugrana still have six central defenders on their books in Ronald Araujo, Inigo Martinez, Jules Kounde, Pau Cubarsi, Eric Garcia and Andreas Christensen. However with Araujo out until near the end of 2024, and Kounde looking as if he will be used at right-back, Barcelona are not as deep as they look. Christensen and Garcia have both been employed in midfield at times too.
