Dani Olmo was named in Hansi Flick’s squad for Barcelona’s opening home match of the 2024-25 season: against Athletic Club on Saturday. However, the 26-year-old was included on the stipulation that he has not yet been registered with La Liga, meaning that the club had hours to get the registration finalised.
A number of departures are imminent, and these would help Barcelona’s efforts to open up enough salary space for Olmo to be registered. However, it appears that they’ve failed the task at hand.
RAC1 (via Sport) have reported that Olmo will not be available to face Athletic at the Estadi Olimpic. It means that Flick will be without his big-money signing for the second weekend in a row. MD have also confirmed this.
This situation has been rather embarrassing for Barcelona, and it’s hard to imagine how Olmo must be feeling. Club bosses will be desperate to ensure that he’s eligible to face Rayo Vallecano at Vallecas on Tuesday.
