“A lot of lies have been told” – Ayoze Perez hits out at former club Real Betis after opening Villarreal account

Ayoze Perez made a big impression on only his second appearance for Villarreal. The 31-year-old, who joined from Real Betis earlier this month, came off the bench to score a stoppage time winner as the Yellow Submarine defeated Sevilla 2-1 at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan on Friday evening.

Ayoze, whose €4m release clause at Real Betis was triggered by Villarreal, described the moment as “special” when he spoke to the media post-match in Seville, as per Diario AS.

“I already scored here with Betis, it’s a special feeling. I’ve experienced from the inside what the derby is and you’re always going to have that different feeling. It feels good, especially because it was the first goal with Villarreal and we got the three points.”

Ayoze also spoke on the reaction to his move to Villarreal. He appeared to hit out at the coverage from Betis’ side, which included president Angel Haro calling it “a surprise”.

“There has been a lot of gossip, a lot of lies that have been told about the situation. It’s a good time to mention it, but that’s football. As in life itself, decisions must be made. I thought it was the best thing for me, and in the end, I made that decision.”

“I’m one of those who say that half-truths are worse than lies, but I don’t give it more importance than it already has.”

It’s shaping up to be a very promising season for Villarreal, and Ayoze is sure to have a big impact at La Ceramica.
