Real Madrid receive positive update on David Alaba injury

Real Madrid appear to have decided not to sign a central defender this summer, despite missing out on Leny Yoro, and a serious injury to David Alaba. Currently Aurelien Tchouameni or Jesus Vallejo would be their third-choice central defender.

It had been expected that Alaba might miss most of the year, with the 32-year-old dealing with a torn meniscus as well as a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Relevo have given a positive update though, saying that Alaba has started running on the anti-gravity treadmill, and could be back running on the grass within the next two weeks.

Los Blancos are keen not to rush Alaba back given the seriousness of his injury, and his importance to the team. However it is a sign that his recovery might be completed closer to October than December. After Eder Militao started running on the pitch, Real Madrid still kept him out of action for two months before he returned to competitive games. Ahead of their longest season ever though, with the potential for 72 games, Alaba is set to be crucial when he comes back.
