Barcelona are in the midst of finalising several departures. Ilkay Gundogan is to re-join Manchester City imminently, with Vitor Roque soon to sign for Real Betis on a loan deal that could end up lasting for two years. They won’t be the only exits this week, as Mikayil Faye prepares to leave after just over a year at Can Barca.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that Rennes have agreed a deal with Barcelona for the signing of Faye. A €12m fixed fee will be received by the Catalans, who will also retain a sell-on clause. Crucially, they will also have the opportunity to re-sign the 20-year-old defender if necessary, as a buy-back option – worth in the region of €35m, is also present.

Faye was signed on a low fee last summer, so it’s a healthy profit that Barcelona will make on a player that was not in Hansi Flick’s plans for this season. There’s no doubt that they will also be keeping an eye on his progress in Ligue 1.
