Surprise name emerges as possible contender to be sold by Barcelona

Barcelona appear determined to close as many departures as possible before the summer transfer window closes. Ilkay Gundogan and Vitor Roque will soon leave for Manchester City and Real Betis respectively, and it’s expected that Mikayil Faye and Ansu Fati will also be moving on before the deadline.

Gundogan’s departure shows that very few players are safe in Can Barca, and another surprise sale could be Andreas Christensen. The Danish defender did not start against Valencia in the opening match of the season, which suggests that he may not be a key part of Hansi Flick’s plans.

As per Diario AS, Christensen has a market in the Premier League, and Barcelona could exploit this if they deem it necessary. Newcastle United were recently linked with a move for the 28-year-old, who’s been one of the club’s most consistent players since his arrival from Chelsea in 2022.

Christensen joined as a free agent, so his sale would generate pure profit – valuable in a FFP sense. However, he’s proven himself to be a very valuable player for Barcelona, so an exit would be a blow, even if club officials don’t feel that it would be.

  1. I see no reason why Xavi was sacked for complaining about Barca low financial stand point. Was xavi wrong to say Barca can not be compared with Real Madrid for now?
