Spain’s Olympic breakout stars in 2024: Who is in Luis de la Fuente’s plans?

Spain secured an incredible summer as La Roja returned to the top table of international football.

Luis de la Fuente’s side produced an incredible showing at Euro 2024, to edge out England in the final, and seal a first European title since 2012.

That was followed by Olympic glory, as the U23 team won gold in Paris, and Spain fans basked in their glory across both competitions.

The 2024/25 season means the start of the UEFA Nations League and there are plenty of betting options available via instant withdrawal casinos.

De la Fuente will utilise Spain’s matches before the end of 2024 to test out new players, and the Olympic squad will be hoping for a chance, after their success in France.

Here at Football Espana we take a look at who could be the next emerging star for La Roja.

Marc Pubill

Veteran duo Nacho Fernandez and Jesus Navas announced their retirement from international football after winning Euro 2024.

With first choice right back Dani Carvajal turning 33 at the start of 2025, de la Fuente will be looking to the future, and Almeria defender Marc Pubill has impressed for club and country.

The Catalan-born full back is yet to be capped at senior level but 2024 could be the perfect chance for de la Fuente to assess his suitability to provide back up to Carvajal.

Pau Cubarsi

Cubarsi has exploded onto the scene at Barcelona in the last 12 months with the centre back hailed for both his calmness and combative streak at the heart of the La Blaugrana back line.

He has already been capped by de la Fuente, breaking a record to become the youngest defender to ever play for Spain at the age of 17 years one month and 28 days, in March.

Injury robbed him of a spot at Euro 2024, but he excelled at the Olympics, and with Aymeric Laporte advancing in years,  de la Fuente could fast track him as a starter in the months ahead.

Samu Omorodion

Samu Omorodion has emerged as key name for Atletico Madrid fans over the summer but not for the expected reason.

His collapsed transfer to Chelsea threw the clubs plans into disarray and he will now remain in Spanish capital for the 2024/25 campaign.

After netting eight La Liga goals on loan at Alaves last year, he will be keen to take his chance back at Los Rojiblancos, and Spain lack a striker of his profile with physicality and pace in behind through the middle of the pitch.
