Getafe transfer update: Big sale frees up room for recruits but iconic captain tipped to exit

Getafe’s chastening transfer window continues, as Jose Bordalas continues to prepare for their second league match against Rayo Vallecano. Los Azulones earned a point against Athletic, but he will not be pleased about only having 17 players at his disposal.

This week the sale of Gaston Alvarez to Al-Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia was confirmed, which Diario AS say is worth €13m to their accounts. Shortly after, they confirmed the signing of Eibar centre-back Juan Berrocal, who will cost them €2.2m. The 25-year-old was a stalwart for the Basque side last season and has penned a three-year deal.

Despite their addition, they same source goes on to report that captain and Getafe icon Djene Dakonam looks to be on his way out. He also has a large offer from Saudi Arabia, and it appears he will exit too.

According to Relevo, their intention is to replace him with Atletico Madrid centre-back Santiago Mourino. They are leading the race for the 22-year-old Uruguayan in a loan deal, after impressing in the same capacity at Real Zaragoza in Segunda last season.

Bordalas still has just 19 players in his squad as things stand, and Borja Mayoral is also expected to follow Alvarez and Djene out the door. The pressure is on Sporting Director Ruben Reyes to strengthen, and to do so fast, with only 10 days left in the window.
