Barcelona set to finalise €15m sale of defender, €30m buy-back clause retained

A necessity for Barcelona between now and the end of the summer will be finalising player sales, as they continue to pursue a return to La Liga’s 1:1 rule. Earlier this week, the departure of Julian Araujo was confirmed, and he will soon be followed out of the exit door by another young defender.

Like Araujo, Mikayil Faye was not expected to feature heavily in Hansi Flick’s plans for the new season. As such, the decision has been taken to sell him, and an operation for him to join Rennes is close to be finalised.

As per Foot Mercato’s Santi Aouna, Barcelona and Rennes are close to agreeing a deal for Faye. The Catalans would receive a €10m fixed fee, with €5m in variables also included. Crucially, they would still have a say in the Senegalese’s future, as they would retain a €30m buy-back clause.

This deal is good for Barcelona, unlike the one that was negotiated with Bournemouth for Araujo. Crucially, it’s funds that can be used to aid their return to the 1:1, which club bosses are desperate to have done by the end of the summer.
