Lamine Yamal’s father gives interview from hospital bed – ‘I thought I was between life and death’

The opening week of the La Liga season took a nasty turn in Barcelona, as Lamine Yamal’s father was stabbed on multiple times on Wednesday night, in retaliation for an argument earlier in the day. The Barcelona star trained as normal on Thursday and visited his father in the afternoon.

Mounir Nasraoui, 38, was stabbed on multiple occasions by four attackers, and was rushed to hospital. Despite the initial danger, his condition was stabilised, and it became clear he would live. He spoke about the incident on Thursday night.

“I thought I was between life and death, I was afraid like any other human being would be. We have to be calm for the good of everyone, mine and the family, I have no other choice. We have to think that Justice is going to do its job. Thank God, God is very great and everything has a solution.”

“I hope I get out as soon as possible. I’m grateful to speak again. I’m a little better, I’ve moved up a floor [from intensive care],” he told El Chiringuito.

Nasraoui is expected to be in hospital under observation for the coming days. Meanwhile Hansi Flick is expected to have Lamine Yamal available on Saturday night for Barcelona’s Liga debut against Valencia at Mestalla. All four attackers have been arrested.
