Barcelona sporting director Deco holds talks with 21-year-old midfielder’s agent

Barcelona are determined to move forward with a young core in their squad, and Hansi Flick is following on from Xavi Hernandez in the sense that he trusts La Masia. Bearing this in mind, it’s expected that Fermin Lopez will continue to hold a key role for the Catalans this season – despite the arrival of Dani Olmo.

Fermin has had an outstanding 12 months. He made his Barcelona debut at the start of last season, and this summer, he was part of Spain’s winning squads at Euro 2024 and the 2024 Olympic Games. He will hope to take that momentum into the 2024-25 campaign.

Those within Can Barca are determined to keep Fermin at the club. One of those is sporting director Deco, who met with the 21-year-old’s agent on Wednesday – as reported by Jijantes – to continue talks over a new contract.

Barcelona will hope to seal an agreement soon, although it’s not a priority as Fermin’s current deal does not run out until 2027. Nevertheless, they will be determined to secure his future for even longer – and rightly so.

  1. Deco is pointing out all the red ink on the club’s financial report, as far as the eye can see. I can just imagine what Fermin’s agent is thinking as Deco tries to pull the wool over his eyes with co0mments like how it is a privilege for his client to be able to wear the azul y grana, even when it means they cannot afforrd to pay him more.
