Barcelona dealt hammer blow in efforts to sell player before closing of transfer window

Earlier this week, Barcelona finalised the sale of Julian Araujo to Bournemouth – a necessary move in their efforts to have their entire first team squad registered before the end of the summer. However, more needs to be done, and further sales are expected before the transfer window closes on the 30th of August.

One player that Barcelona are reportedly keen to sell is Ilkay Gundogan. The German midfielder is not expected to play as prominent a role as he did in his first season at the club, and given his age, it could be the final time that a significant sale could take place.

However, Relevo have reported that Gundogan has no plans to leave this summer. His idea is to continue as a Barcelona player, despite reported interest from clubs in Türkiye.

Gundogan may not play too often this season, but he should still be a very important player for Barcelona. His experience and leadership is invaluable in a relatively young dressing room, so a departure would not have been wise anyway, even despite the club’s financial problems.
