Real Madrid register interest in 16-year-old Uruguayan midfielder with €12m buyout clause

Real Madrid have been consistently scouring Latin America for the most promising teenage talents, as evidenced by their signing of Endrick Felipe this summer, and their interest in Franco Mastantuono. They think they may have found a worthy investment between the two in Uruguay too.

According to Minuto1 (as carried by Diario AS) in Uruguay, Real Madrid have informed Penarol that they are scouting talented midfielder German Barbas. The 16-year-old made his debut earlier this year against Progreso, becoming the second-youngest player ever in the Uruguayan first division, and featuring for 11 minutes. He also featured for Uruguay under-19s in their South-American Championship win.

Technically sound, with a good engine and a fierce shot, it has not taken long for him to be compared to Fede Valverde, who Real Madrid also signed from Penarol. Barbas himself has acknowledged that since he was young, he has also been nicknamed ‘Pajarito’ [Little bird] as he flies around the pitch, in similar fashion to his compatriot.

Benfica and Galatasaray have also noticed his talents, and now that Los Blancos have been linked with him, Barbas’ price tag will immediately have risen. Barbas has a very accessible €12m buyout clause, which Real Madrid will not think twice about if they feel he is the real deal.
