Barcelona prepared to rival Atletico Madrid for midfield target

As things stand, Barcelona do not intend to sign a new defensive midfielder before the summer transfer window closes. Hansi Flick is prepared to keep faith in the options already at his disposal, which includes the recently-promoted pair of Marc Casado and Marc Bernal. However, things could change in the next week or two.

Sport say that Barcelona will re-evaluate the situation after their La Liga opener against Valencia. Depending on the performances of those in midfield, they could look to sign someone – and currently, that someone would be N’Golo Kante.

Kante, who is also being targeted by Atletico Madrid, is determined to leave Al-Ittihad this summer, only one year after he joined the Saudi Arabian club from Chelsea. Barcelona have appreciated the veteran Frenchman since his time in England.

The problem for both Barcelona and Atleti is that Al-Ittihad that little intention of parting ways with Kante this summer. It’s likely that both clubs would target a loan deal, but this stance suggests that this would be almost impossible to achieve.
