Reason why Samu Omorodion to Chelsea deal collapsed as four sides show interest

Atletico Madrid and Chelsea have been in negotiations for weeks over Conor Gallagher and Samu Omorodion, but after a deal for the latter collapsed, it has thrown Gallagher’s future into doubt as well.

Gallagher has reportedly already signed his deal at Atletico to complete a €40m move to the Metropolitano, and is already training with his new teammates. On Sunday, Samu Omorodion flew to London to complete a €40m move to Chelsea, but the deal has collapsed.

Originally it was said he had failed a medical, but now Marcos Benito is claiming that the reason for the deal falling apart was due to Chelsea changing the conditions at the last minute, and trying to purchase merely half Omorodion’s rights. The two sides are now negotiating for Joao Felix, upon which the Gallagher deal also reportedly hinges.

However Omorodion’s future may yet be away from Atletico too. Fabrizio Romano has reported that he could well leave for another club, and Benito has added that Bayer Leverkusen, Villarreal, Real Betis, and Bournemouth have all shown interest in the 20-year-old.

It could well come down to whether Atletico need the money for Omorodion. If that is the case, Leverkusen may well be able to come closer to the terms Chelsea were offering, although Bournemouth may well have the money to consider a large transfer too. Villarreal and Betis seem much more likely as loan destinations, albeit the Yellow Submarine have brought in around €35m for Alexander Sorloth, and are in need of a striker.
