Barcelona President Joan Laporta finally gives up on Nico Williams

Athletic Club have won the day – Barcelona are finally giving in on Nico Williams. The 22-year-old Basque winger will remain in Bilbao for the coming season.

Barcelona have been moving to sign Williams since late June, and intensified speculation over Williams’ future over the last month. However his agent Felix Tainta has not been responding to Barcleona’s calls of late, say Onze, and his silence on their offer has been regarded as a no.

President Joan Laporta, who was the driving force of the pursuit, and tried to get involved himself last week, has finally accepted that Williams is no longer possible. Despite having a €58m release clause, they could not persuade him to accept their offer.

The news will come as a major blow for the Blaugrana who miss out on their top target for the summer, although they have signed Dani Olmo from Leipzig for a fee of €55-62m. Given Olmo has joined, Williams’ answer may be a blessing in disguise, as Hansi Flick alreaddy has the three positions in behind the striker well stocked, and Williams arrival would have meant benching at least three important players every game.

Barcelona have supposedly outlined alternatives out to Williams, but it seems much more likely they go for a stop-gap solution if anyone, rather than a major signing.

  2. This article of pouring cold water on Nico signing and the fake one prior to that one are comedy gold… anaIcavityIona are a prime example of a laughing stock, a mentaIIy iII patient who deludes himself that he is Napoleon, a modern day don Quijote, Willy E Coyote who keeps chasing Road Runner (Real Madrid). First the celebrations and plans of parade when trophies start raining down on them… aaaand then comes the admittance of porkBelly that they have given up on Nico.

Dont worry, they will sign him next year, when his price rises up to 100mil (dont doubt me, they really are this stupid, laPorka is like: if im bankrupting this club, whats the REAL difference of owing one or two billions in levers?) and when they sell everything they have left of club.

I just love how cretinIongoIoids got their hopes up, again… this was supposed to be the cure of hangover of losing joan SCAMper trophy home – to a club they handpicked themselves; but instead ended up being a double whammy of misery.

Mark my words, another 0 trophy season inc. Will you donkeys still lick laPorkas boots?

  3. This is so sad. Laporta lied again through his media mouthpieces and made fans hope, for nothing.

  4. So, we are to believe Laporta only personally got involved in the last week? I am sure that was his comment to the media, in an attempt to save face. Why are not the fans calling for his head? A new president and sporting director seem to be the only way Barcelona can keep from self-destructing. It is going to take years of self-restraint (hide the check book) and a lowering of hardware expectations. Just set a goal of becoming financially solvent without being relegated.

    1. Why fans aren’t calling for his head?
      Good question.

Any one with a shred if intelligence can see that he is detrimental to Barcelona.
