Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi has surprised many with the simple fact that he is willing to entertain offers this summer, having turned down approaches in previous years from Arsenal and Barcelona. However Liverpool have real hope of signing the 25-year-old.
On Friday, Matteo Moretto revealed that part of the reason for his change of heart was the fact he fulfilled his dream of competing in the Champions League with Real Sociedad. Now it seems he is edging closer and closer to completing a switch to the Reds. Moretto explains that this coming week is expected to be decisive on way or another, and although Liverpool’s offer is much larger, that will not be a deciding factor. Zubimendi is ‘very attracted’ by Liverpool’s offer, and it is only him resolving his final doubts about leaving his boyhood club that stands between a move now.
Naturally Liverpool fans will be wary of counting their chickens too soon, but Zubimendi would certainly be a marquee signing this summer. He has the misfortune of competing with Rodri Hernandez at international level for a spot, but perhaps only Toni Kroos has been at a higher level at building from the base of midfield in recent years in La Liga.
