Barcelona are not currently not considering the signing of a new midfielder, with Hansi Flick prepared to keep faith in the options he currently has an his disposal – including the recently-promoted duo of Marc Casado and Marc Bernal. If their stance were to change, their top target is said to be Chelsea’s Carney Chukwuemeka.

Chukwuemeka is not expected to play a major role in Chelsea’s first team squad for the 2024-25 season, which could open the door for Barcelona. However, there’s yet to be any club-to-club negotiations at this stage, as Fabrizio Romano has told CaughtOffside’s The Daily Briefing.
“There has been speculation about other potential Chelsea exits as well, with Carney Chukwuemeka linked with Barcelona. Still, my understanding is that there is nothing concrete so far. Chelsea have not received any bid for Chukwuemeka and the situation is currently quiet. Then in the next days we will see… but at the moment there has been no offer made to Chelsea from Barcelona.”
Chukwuemeka has a release clause in the region of €47m in his Chelsea contract, although Barcelona – if they were to make a move – would surely look to play much less. It remains to be seen whether there are developments over the remaining weeks of the summer transfer window.
