Atletico Madrid consider loaning out €18m signing

In the coming days, Atletico Madrid will close to major signings: Conor Gallagher and Julian Alvarez. An estimated €135m will be spent in total across the two deals, which will provide a significant upgrade to Diego Simeone’s squad ahead of their La Liga season kicking off next weekend.

Gallagher’s addition means that Atleti are well-covered in midfield, with Koke Resurreccion, Rodrigo De Paul, Marcos Llorente, Pablo Barrios, Thomas Lemar and Arthur Vermeeren. It means that the latter is likely to have very little playing time during the 2024-25 season if he were to remain at Atleti.

With this in mind, Diario AS have reported that Atleti are considering loaning out Vermeeren, who joined from Royal Antwerp in January for an estimated €18m. Only a temporary arrangement would be considered, as Los Colchoneros have no intention of letting the Belgian teenager leave permanently.

Simeone has been impressed with Vermeeren during pre-season, but it’s true that he is behind others in the pecking order. A loan, especially to another La Liga club, could be very beneficial for him and Atletico Madrid in the long run.
