Real Madrid suffer another huge blow as another centre-back goes down with torn ACL

Real Madrid must be increasingly concerned by the propensity of their players to go down with long-term injuries, and another central defender has been the victim of the dreaded anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Youngster Joan Martinez was starting to produce some real excitement this summer, after being included on Real Madrid’s preseason tour to the USA. He impressed during his showings against AC Milan, Barcelona and Chelsea too, and his future looks enormously bright, with Carlo Ancelotti declaring he had everything necessary to make it at Real Madrid.

However tragedy has struck again as Martinez went down with an ACL injury in training on Friday. Diario AS report that he will undergo surgery in the coming days, and he is expected to be out for the next six to seven months at least.

This is the second ACL injury this preseason after Cesar Palacios went down against Milan, and their fifth ACL in the space of a year. Eder Militao and Thibaut Courtois are back, but David Alaba is still recovering from his problem, and is expected to miss the best part of a year.

  1. Eh, that was a different universe in which Ezequiel Palacios actually did sign for Real Madrid in 2019. To get back to ours, you need to switch off your Temporal Alignment device, realign your reciprocation dingle-arms and hope to God the spurving bearings have the correct amount of lubrication.
