Dani Olmo’s first words after signing for Barcelona – ‘They were intense negotiations’

Barcelona have announced the signing of Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig, their first major addition this summer. The deal is believed to be worth around €62m, €7m of which are variables.

The Blaugrana have tied Olmo down to a six-year deal, keeping him at the club until 2030. The 26-year-old flew back to Barcelona with Sporting Director Deco on Tuesday night, and the deal was announced on Friday afternoon. Olmo was delighted to return to the club he came through at until the age of 15.

“I’m very happy, it’s a dream come true, I’m coming home with my family and teammates. I’m looking forward to getting started, I’m very proud that Barca has made this effort, that they want me.”

“They were intense negotiations, but it is normal. Everything has been done very quickly with Leipzig and I am also very grateful to them. Now a new stage begins and we are going for everything,”

He was also asked what he would bring to the team, with doubts about where he will play under Hansi Flick.

“Versatility, quality, first touch, I have already played with many Barca players. There is a lot of quality here, I want to play with players like Lewandowski and I am prepared to contribute.”

And Olmo set his sights high on what Barcelona should aim for this season.

“The objective is to win, we are Barca and we have to compete for everything, we have a team, we have the players, we have the staff and we are going to go for everything,” Olmo told club media, as quoted by Sport.

Olmo showed during Euro 2024 that he was more than capable of having an impact at the highest level, coming out as top scorer for the champions and the most effective player at the tournament, despite not starting three of the games.
