Alexander Sorloth has Atletico Madrid debut to remember in Hong Kong

Last weekend, Atletico Madrid completed the signing of Alexander Sorloth from Villarreal in a deal worth a minimum of €35m. There’s high hopes at Los Colchoneros for the Norwegian marksman, who scored 23 goals in La Liga last season. Already, he’s making his mark for Diego Simeone’s side.

Sorloth made his first appearance for Atleti on Wednesday in the pre-season friendly against Kitchee in Hong Kong. It was a dream debut, as he scored twice in 60 seconds inside the opening 10 minutes.

Atleti went on to win 6-1, with further goals from Carlos Martin, Cheuk-Pan Ngan (OG), Adrian Nino and Thomas Lemar – it’s their second victory in a row, after the 3-1 success against Getafe last week.

With Julian Alvarez also joining in the coming days, Atletico Madrid now have a very threatening forward line. Sorloth is likely to be the leading goal threat, and if he can match his numbers from last season, a fight for the La Liga title cannot be ruled out.
