WATCH: Lionel Messi mansion in Ibiza targeted by climate crisis activists

Barcelona and Argentina legend Lionel Messi is recovering from an ankle injury with a smile on his face and the Copa America medal around his neck, after the Albiceleste beat Colombia in the final last month. However the Inter Miami star might have woken up a little disgruntled after discovering that he had been the target of a climate crisis protest.

Messi’s mansion in Ibiza was the target of a climate protest from ‘Futuro Vegetal’ [Vegatable Future], as two activists entered the grounds of his mansion, and proceeded to spray paint the place, while also taking photos of the incident.

This was reported by Relevo, who say that other property of the mega-rich, such as a yacht, a Lamborghini car, and a private jet have also been targeted by the same organisation in recent times. Messi’s wall was painted with the message ‘your luxury our climate crisis’.

They reference a report from Oxfam in 2019, which claims that the top 1% of the world’s wealthiest people are responsible for the same amount of carbon pollution as two thirds of the rest of the world. They also call on policy to change, with far-right party Vox making it legal to build projects in exchange for payment, even if they do not meet environmental regulations.
