Julian Alvarez latest: Atletico Madrid and Manchester City agree fee rising to €95m

Atletico Madrid and Manchester City are engrossed in negotiations for Argetina forward Julian Alvarez, and it looks as if things could be wrapped up before the day is out. Los Rojiblancos could have a new star forward on their hands.

Reports in Argentina overnight claimed that a deal had already been reached for the 24-year-old, and now Simon Bajkowski of Manchester Evening News is also reporting on an agreement, although he says the package could go as high as €95m. This has since been corroborated by The Athletic.

That is contrasted by Relevo, who claim that Atletico’s offer thus far was for €75m including variables. Matteo Moretto did show optimism regarding an agreement though, noting that the two sides would be in permanent contact to get the deal done today.

On Monday, Moretto told Football España that personal terms had still not been agreed, and that remains the case: Alvarez has given the green light to a move, but a contract has still not been finalised.

It appears Alvarez’s signing does hinge on Samu Omorodion leaving the club to join Chelsea, in a move worth between €40-50m, depending on the source. The Spanish forward was tipped for a big future, and seen as a player with the potential to become one of the best in the world, but for many, the prospect of signing Alvarez going into his peak years is a risk worth taking.
