Chelsea to get wish as midfielder will close €42m move on Wednesday

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher is set to complete a move to Atletico Madrid this week, after the two clubs agreed terms. Gallagher reportedly gave the green light just minutes before the deadline Los Colchoneros had set.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the deal will end up costing €42m for Atletico, and Gallagher will travel to the Spanish capital on Wednesday in order to complete the move. He will then sign a five-year deal with Los Rojiblancos.

The 24-year-old emerged as Atletico’s top target after Mikel Merino turned down their approach, and it appears Samu Omorodion will also move the other way, after a potential move was readdressed during the negotiations for Gallagher. Atletico now have a decision to make regarding Javi Guerra too. They had reportedly agreed to a move for Guerra, fearing that the move for Gallagher would not get the player’s green light, but now there’s uncertainty over the deal.
