RB Leipzig Management – ‘We’re ready to talk with Barcelona over Dani Olmo deal’

Barcelona have switched their attentions from Nico Williams to Dani Olmo, after the former all but confirmed he would not be joining the club. In the case of Olmo, RB Leipzig have opened the door to negotiations with the Blaugrana.

Sporting Director Deco has traveled to Leipzig to discuss terms with the German side, Olmo, and his agents, and the coming 48 hours are expected to be decisive with regard to a deal being done. During a press conference, Managing Director of Sport Marcel Schaefer explained that they were open to talking about a price tag, but it seems highly unlikely the Blaugrana will get him on the cheap.

“We are ready to talk about it. But Dani has a certain value. That is why we are comfortable now. Dani is an exceptional player,” Schaefer explained to Sport.

Different outlets have reported different numbers in terms of the offers that the Catalan side have made, with some putting the fixed fee as high as €55m, and others saying their offer is €47m, with variables taking the potential fee over €60m. Leipzig have been clear that they want to guarantee themselves at least €60m from the deal, but Schaefer’s words open the door to perhaps a fresh solution.

Given Leipzig have no need to sell, it seems likely that they will demand Barcelona pay over the €60m in order to allow them to pay on a schedule that suits them. Recent reports say that Olmo’s release clause drops to €50m next season, and Deco will no doubt point to that as a base figure.
