Turkish sources confirm Fenerbahce interest in Barcelona star

Barcelona are running out of players that they could look to sell this summer. Frenkie de Jong, Ronald Araujo and Ansu Fati had been candidates previously, but with them all injured, it’s unlikely that they depart. Recently, Ilkay Gundogan emerged as a possible option, despite having only joined from Manchester City last summer.

Gundogan was one of Barcelona’s better players last season, but given that he’s not expected to be a nailed starter for the upcoming 2024-25 campaign, club bosses are now reportedly considering whether to move him on. This is music to the ears of Fenerbahce, who are showing interest in the German midfielder.

Fenerbahce’s pursuit of Gundogan has been confirmed by Spor Arena (via MD). Jose Mourinho, who was appointed earlier this summer, has reportedly requested that the 33-year-old be signed.

Selling Gundogan would be a bizarre move by Barcelona. He’s one of the few leaders in the dressing room, and besides, he wouldn’t command a massive fee because of his age. There’s surely better candidates to be transfer-listed than the veteran star.
