Girona preparing to hijack Atletico Madrid’s signing of Javi Guerra

On Sunday, it was reported that Atletico Madrid have agreed a deal to sign Javi Guerra from Valencia. The 21-year-old was identified as a Plan B to Conor Gallagher, who had been stalling on whether not to sign from Chelsea – ironically, both players have now agreed to make the move to the Metropolitano.

Because of this, Atleti are now faced with a conundrum. It’s unlikely that they will be able to afford both Gallagher and Guerra, especially as they are planning to spend big on Julian Alvarez. At this stage, it’s perhaps more likely that the former is the one to join, although it cannot be completed ruled out that both arrive.

If Atleti’s deal for Guerra does fall through, Girona intend to pick up the pieces. MD say that the Catalans could make a fourth bid for the young midfielder, as Michel Sanchez wants one more midfielder on top of Oriol Romeu, whose set to return from Barcelona.

It remains to be seen who Guerra’s situation plays out. He’d be an excellent signing for whoever he joined – Atletico Madrid will hope that it’s them, although financial constraints could hand the advantage to Girona.
